Evil Dead

Robert Redford has a new thriller out this week. That would usually be worth talking about except that the opaque-suited studio chimps wouldn’t let him make it unless he cast Shia Laboob. So we pass.

The larger release is the latest reboot of “Evil Dead,” which looks like every other Horror flick of the past 20 years, too much blood, too little script and no intrigue.

The original landed back in the early 1980’s, while the industry still had an appetite for decent “Exorcist” rip-offs. Dead was the tale of young nitwits who didn’t realize that creepy cabins in the woods were not the best places to hang out and seduce women. Back then, the whole paranormal thang was just coming into vogue. Now it’s all they seem to be able to churn out – always badly.

Whatever happened to the homicidal maniac? At least in those Horror classics, we had something tangible to root against. There is nothing here but stupid, wide-eyed 20-somethings and a rash of lousy effects. So we’ll gladly pass here as well.

You should too.
